    Update on Season Start

    Dear Killer Whales Families,

We want to share an important update as early as possible.

Yesterday afternoon, the HOA informed us that power to the pool will not be restored until Wednesday of next week, and pool cleaning is scheduled for Thursday. The power outage is related to vandalism at the pool clubhouse, which has been under construction. While the timing is unfortunate, the remodel does include some improvements we’ll all get to enjoy, like new bathrooms. This means we will not be able to begin swimming as planned on Tuesday, and the earliest we could safely be in the water is Friday.

We know this is disappointing and it’s not how we wanted to kick off the season. Please know this was unexpected and completely outside the team’s control. We’re working to make the best of the time before we’re able to get back in the pool.

While nothing is finalized yet, we wanted to communicate now rather than delay sharing this information. We are actively exploring alternatives. Our Head Coach, Chase, has already been coordinating with the coaching staff on dryland schedules and plans.

Tentatively, here is our plan for the week:

    • Tuesday: We plan to hold a parent meeting at the pool. During this time, our coaches will take the swimmers for get‑to‑know‑you activities and light introductory exercises. Board members will be available to answer questions and address concerns.
    • Wednesday and Thursday: Swimmers would come at their regularly scheduled practice times. Coaches will lead dryland practices and team‑building activities while we wait for the pool to be fully ready.
    • Friday: We are planning to officially get in the water and begin regular swim practices.

We will confirm details and logistics as soon as possible and will follow up with another update by Monday evening.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work through this.

    P.S. Swimsuit Clarification
After our last email, we received several questions about swimsuits, so we wanted to help clarify a few things.

If you ordered a team suit, those are typically distributed during practice about two weeks after the season starts. Purchasing a team suit is not required, and swimmers do not need to wear the team suit to every practice.

For practices, the sleeker the suit, the better. Baggy or loose trunks, as well as frilly one‑piece or two‑piece suits, can create extra drag and may slip once swimmers begin practicing dives. If your swimmer already has a jammer‑style suit (boys) or a simple one‑piece (girls), those are great options. Slimmer fitting trunks that can be cinched snugly at the waist are also fine. Many swimmers practice in non‑racing, “regular” swimsuits.

If your child is a Junior Whale, they are welcome to wear whatever swimsuit they are most comfortable in.

We hope this helps clear things up!
